December 2007

Bruss Construction has been selected to participate in pilot program sponsored by the NH Department of Environmental Services. Acknowledged by Governor Lynch as a December 19th press conference, the “Aspiring Leader Program” works with leading New Hampshire companies known for their outstanding work in trying to help our environment through reduction of use, company recycling and other means to lessen their impact on the local environment. Bruss is currently the only construction company participating in this program.

November 2007

Bruss Construction has been selected as Construction Manager for the new TradeWinds Mechanical Corporate Call Center in Exeter. The 7,500 square foot structure is designed to LEED Silver Certification requirements by the US Green Building Council with completion scheduled for the Fall of 2008. To achieve this certification the building is designed to have as little impact on the site as possible, utilizes highly a efficient SIPS (structural insulated panel system) wall system, LEED Silver Design, high performance quality built environment which 60% more efficient than standard commercial construction. This is the first such building constructed to these tolerances for a trade organization.

Known for their 25 year history of constructing high performance and energy efficient buildings, Bruss Construction held a day long workshop for their entire staff focusing on sustainable energy use, LEED construction, and responsible building practices. This workshop also concluded with the first of four classes for 10 employees going through the LEED Accredited Professional program and testing. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings, which is administered by the US Green Building Council.

Bruss Construction Completes Phase 1 of Historic Colony Hall Renovations

MacDowell Colony, Peterborough – Bruss Construction has completed the first phase of renovation to the Historic Colony Hall building. Phase 1 consisted of renovations and additions to the food service area with utility and infrastructure work to allow for more efficient performance while preserving the historic significance of the Hall. New heating, electrical and ventilation systems were installed along with construction of a new loading dock. Phase 2 will consist of renovating the Admissions Office, Mail Area, installation of an elevator along with other life safety improvements. Constructing in Phases has allowed for continual use of Colony Hall during their busy summer session. Completion of the entire project is expected in early 2008.

August 2007

Bruss Construction has completed construction of two faculty housing units for Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter New Hampshire. The units were engineered to incorporate sustainable design principals as real-world examples developed with the environmental education curriculum at the school. The Units use geo-thermal heating and cooling with a heat recovery ventilation systems. The outgoing senior class gift was passive solar hot water panels installed on one unit. This was also the first use of 10 ¼ inch SIPS (Solid Insulated Panel Structures) panels in New Hampshire. Use of local building supplies and environmentally friendly materials, while recycling 85% of construction waste added great benefit to the project, key to the school’s environmental attitudes and philosophies.

Bruss Construction LEEDing the way again.

Nubanusit Neighborhood & Farm in Peterborough, the state’s first green residential development, has registered its duplex homes for LEED Platinum with the United States Green Building Council. The neighborhood consists of 29 clustered homes, a Common House, an organic farm, and professional office space in a restored historic farmhouse on 70 acres of land along the Nubanusit River, within walking distance of the town’s center.

Bruss Construction was the first Construction Management company to construct a LEED Certified Gold building in New England, and currently has three other LEED Registered Projects under construction.

Leadership in Energy and Efficient Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System in the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED Platinum certification is the highest rating awarded.

Bruss Construction Renovates Colony Hall at MacDowell

The MacDowell Colony has selected Bruss Construction to manage construction on the renovation of the existing Colony Hall building. The project will be constructed in phases to allow the artists' colony continued use of the building during construction.

During phase one, the kitchen area will be increased in size through a small addition and all appliances will be updated including a new heating and electrical system. Phase two will focus on renovations to the internal office spaces currently housing the Admissions Office and mail facility.

The MacDowell Colony is designed to facilitate a balance between focus on work and interdisciplinary interaction for artists. The Colony's mission is to nurture the arts by offering creative individuals of the highest talent an inspiring environment in which to produce enduring works of the imagination.

Bruss Construction Helps To Keep Classes In Session

After being awarded Construction Manager for the building of the Second Nature Academy Elementary School in spring 2007, located in Nashua, NH, Bruss Construction has been asked to assist in completing renovations to their existing pre-school and daycare, allowing Second Nature Academy to continue with their daily schedules without any interruptions.

Bruss completed renovations in the pre-school including interior finish, flooring, cabinet installation, plumbing and electrical work to allow for class area and additional office space. This project was completed on a fast track pace to allow them not to miss any class time.

Bruss is currently working on renovations in the existing daycare, The Nature of Things, to include the reception area, office space, and a health room.

LEED Certification Is Second Nature

Bruss Construction will provide Construction Manager services for the building of the Second Nature Academy Elementary School located in Nashua. Bruss will be using a green curriculum model with the goal of being the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified green elementary school in NH.

"Using a Green curriculum, we will guide children through the learning process of core curriculum areas through the study of habitats, wildlife, plant life, sustainable forest management, farming, and biodiversity," said Deborah Gleeson, Executive Director of Second Nature Academy.

Phase 1 of the project consists of a one-story elementary school to start Spring 2007. The school will include classrooms, offices, great hall, restrooms and HVAC rooms. Phase 2 of the project consists of the Barn to house administrative offices and general classroom space, with the anticipated start in spring 2008.
